St Agnes PU College, Biology department, celebrated Vanamahothsava on 05/07/2018 in College Auditorium at 3.00 pm. The programme began with a prayer song on nature followed by mime on the theme “Save Water”, flash mob on “Beat Plastic Pollution” and a documentary to raise awareness about pollution in the environment and its impact on our lives. Mr P. Sridhar, Range Forest Officer, Mangaluru, was the Chief Guest and Ms Preema Correa welcomed him cordially with a bouquet. Mrs Suvasini P administered the oath to the gathering, where in they pledged to do their bit to conserve the environment. The Chief Guest planted a sapling as a symbolic representation of Vanamahothsava.
The College Cabinet Members handed over a plant sapling to the Principal as a symbol of promoting Vanamahothsava. The Chief Guest distributed the saplings to the students and exhorted them to take good care of it. He also distributed the certificates to the winners of painting competition. The Chief Guest in his speech said that environmental conversation and a love and reverence for nature is best fostered at home at a young age. He further advised the students to plant saplings that will grow into mighty trees and provide shade and fruits to the coming generations. He warned of a dire future where people may have to carry oxygen mask instead of water bottles.
Mrs Shobha presented a memento to the Chief Guest as a token of respect and appreciation. The programme ended with an interactive session, where the students clarified their doubts with the Chief Guest. Ms Shalon Susanne Pinto the Science secretary compered the event with flair.
