The Association of Physics Lecturers of DK District P U Colleges, held their annual workshop at St Agnes P U College, Mangaluru on 11th August 2018.
The programme was attended by more than 130 lecturers from various government and private colleges in the district. Mr Kiran from St Agnes P U College compered the entire programme. Mr Joel Fernandes invoked God’s blessings through a melodious and meaningful prayer song.
The Chief Guest of the day, Mr M Nagarajappa, The DDPUE, Mr V Vishwanath, High Court Advocate, Sr Shamita, Principal of St Agnes P U College, Mr Anand P, President of the Association, and office bearers Mr Vincent Mascarenhas and Mr Harish Shastry, were invited to the dais to inaugurate the programme by the auspicious lighting of the lamp.
Mr Gopal Gowda, Principal, Govt P U College, Bettampady, Puttur welcomed the gathering.
Mr Ananda P, gave a brief report of the work done by the association over the years since its inception. He mentioned about preparation of I and II PUC Physics laboratory manuals and a well – edited and updated question bank. The association has also to its credit the preparation of low – cost instruments to help the government colleges, who are allotted minimum funds for laboratory maintenance.
In his inaugural speech, V Vishwanath called the lecturers as ‘leaders’ and ‘teaching’ as a noble profession, highly respected in society. He stressed that teachers must always remain loyal to their service and mentor students who greatly value their guidance.
Two BPL students, who were top scorers in Physics in the II PU Annual examination held in March 2018, were felicitated and given a cash prize.
Mr M Nagarajappa was congratulated on taking charge as the new DDPUE of Dakshina Kannada District and honoured for the same. In his address he applauded the association for their commendable work in making several laboratory equipment available to all government colleges, free or at a low cost. He called the Physics lecturers as ‘DK scientists’. He said that the association must be a role model for others.
Several lecturers were felicitated on their promotion to the post of Principal and other such esteemed positions.
Free apparatus for the experiments on semiconductor diode and zener diode characteristics were distributed to 35 government colleges in the district.
Mr Harish Shastry from Vivekananda P U College, Puttur explained the parallax method of performing optics experiments and Mr Mahesh from Govt P U College, Bettampady, Puttur demonstrated the new equipment that had been distributed.
The workshop ended with a visit to the physics laboratory of the college followed by lunch.
